Profile

Murray is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon at Middlemore, directs the Congenital Hand Service at Starship Hospital and in the private sector sees patients at his practices: Plastic Surgery Auckland and monthly satellite clinics in Whangarei and Warkworth.

He is currently the Director of Clinical Training at Middlemore and a selector for the national Advanced Training Scheme for plastic surgery. He participates regularly in voluntary surgery missions to the Third World through Interplast.

Murray regularly attends international meetings devoted to aesthetic plastic surgery and is an active member of the International Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and the New Zealand Foundation for Cosmetic Plastic Surgery.

He is also an active member of The American Society for Plastic Surgery and The British Society for Surgery of the Hand

Post-Fellowship Training

Murray Beagley trained fully in New Zealand, graduating from Otago University with MBChB and undertook advanced surgical training in plastic surgery, gaining Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2000.

He spent three years of advanced post-graduate training in the UK working in world renowned centres: Frenchay Hospital, St Andrew's Centre, Great Ormond Street Hospital and The Wellington Hospital. At these centres he pursued his interest in aesthetic, breast, hypospadias, hand and paediatric plastic surgery. He completed a formal Fellowship in Aesthetic Surgery at The Wellington under the tutelage of several leading Harley Street cosmetic surgeons.

During his time in Europe, he gained the Gold Medal for being the best candidate in the European Diploma in Hand Surgery (2002). While in the UK he lectured trainee plastic and orthopaedic surgeons at the Royal College of Surgeons. He maintains an interest in teaching graduate trainees as the Director of Education at Middlemore Hospital.

I am a New Zealand trained plastic surgeon and a consultant at Middlemore Hospital in the Department of Plastic Surgery and the National Burn Centre.

After qualifying as a specialist I completed further training in cosmetic plastic surgery and burn surgery in New Zealand and the United States.

Interests

I perform cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the face and body.

Dr Locke is a highly regarded Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon based in Auckland. As one of New Zealand’s few female Plastic Surgeons, she is acutely aware of her patients’ needs and she is dedicated to helping them achieve the best possible outcome from their surgery. Dr Locke is thorough, conscientious, and empathic in her assessment of patients. She will discuss your personal options to allow individualised decision making, tailored to your needs and desires, taking into account your personal situation.

Dr Locke is fully trained in New Zealand, attending the University of Auckland School of Medicine. As well as her advanced surgical training, she undertook two years of full-time research at the University of Auckland School of Biological Sciences to obtain a Doctorate of Medicine (MD) along with her Plastic and reconstructive Surgery qualification (FRACS Plastics) in 2010.

After completing her training, Dr Locke spent two years in North America, honing her skills in breast reconstruction as well as cosmetic and aesthetic surgery. She trained in all forms of breast reconstruction including microsurgical reconstructions such as the deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) flap.  She has been working as a specialist Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon at Middlemore hospital in Auckland since 2012. With regular attendance at meetings and symposia around the world, Dr Locke ensures that her knowledge, skills and techniques remain up to date and conform to best practice standards.

Dr Locke is motivated and enthusiastic about achieving the best outcomes for her patients. She enjoys working in a team environment and is well respected by her peers. Outside of work, she keeps fit by going to the gym and playing hockey. She is married with two daughters.

Post-Fellowship Training

Dr Michelle Locke has a strong research background which stemmed from participation in several Summer Studentship research projects as an undergraduate. During her advanced training in Plastic Surgery, she spent two years in the laboratory to undertake a Doctorate of Medicine (MD) degree at the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Auckland. Her thesis work involved benchtop scientific experiments, culminating in the submission of her thesis in fulfilment of the degree requirements. This fuelled her love of research, which continues to this day.

Currently Dr Locke works at the University of Auckland two days per week and is involved in ongoing research projects in the Dunbar laboratory at the School of Biological Sciences, as well as collaborations with other departments. During her clinical time, she is the principal investigator of many other research projects, often focused on improving outcomes for breast reconstruction patients.

Stanley Loo

Profile

Stanley Loo is a fully trained and qualified Plastic, Reconstructive and Cosmetic Surgeon who has extensive experience in a wide variety of plastic surgical procedures. He is committed to providing care of the highest standard.

Returning to New Zealand in 2008, Stanley was appointed as a Consultant Plastic Surgeon at Middlemore Hospital where he has subspecialty interests in Cleft Lip and Palate, Microvascular Surgery, Microtia Surgery and has been instrumental in the setting up of the Middlemore Head and Neck Service and the Melanoma Unit. Stanley is also involved in the teaching of our future plastic surgeons.

Stanley is committed to research and has presented and published a number of papers and invited to participate in a number of international meetings. He has also been the scientific convener of the New Zealand Plastic Surgical Scientific meetings.

After hours, Stanley has interests in skiing, squash, cycling and spending time with his young family.

Originally from Auckland, Stanley graduated from the Auckland School of Medicine in 1995. His early medical training occurred in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington and Christchurch in a number of specialties. He then continued on to train in Plastic Surgery in Auckland, Hamilton and Wellington gaining his Royal Australasian Fellowship of Surgery (FRACS).

Stanley continued onto postgraduate training in New Zealand, Malaysia, Taiwan, South Korea and Japan, in the fields of burns, cleft lip and palate surgery, microsurgery, microtia surgery and Asian cosmetic surgery, working with world renowned leaders in their fields.
